Quinta do Cruzeiro

A Unique Place, Shaped by Time and Surrounded by the Mountains of Dão

In the heart of the Dão – Portugal’s oldest demarcated region for still wines – lies Quinta do Cruzeiro, a family estate that has belonged to the Melo family for more than four centuries, that keeps stories, secrets, and memories that have been passed down through generations.

The estate unfolds over eleven small vineyard plots, none exceeding two hectares, across 60 hectares of land divided evenly between vineyards, olive groves and native forest. Each parcel reveals a different expression of the terroir – a dialogue between altitude, granite, and time, resulting in wines of character, balance, and authenticity.

The winemaking spirit of Quinta do Cruzeiro reaches back to its very origins.
Traces of ancient viticulture remain – from the legend of the old lagareta in the Cipreste vineyard (of the Balsa House), evoking the Middle Ages, to the
archaeological remains of Roman presence found in Mangualde’s Citânia and within the estate itself.

Today, Quinta do Cruzeiro stands as a true living ecosystem of biodiversity, set high on a plateau above 400 meters, embraced by the mountains of Estrela and Caramulo, pine forests, olive groves, and wild vegetation.
Here, Nature is alive and whole, and its voice resonates in every vine, every cluster, and every drop of wine — the purest expression of the Dão.
